Slow living

I am trying to embrace slow and simple living. Last week I had a visit from the flu who is a very good teacher of back to basics! So what has the flu taught me:
  • rest is really quite delicious
  • slowing down means there is time to enjoy the uniqueness of the people around me. There is time for simple delightful conversations about nothing which make me feel part of a bigger collective
  • love and intuition can flood in when I am vulnerable
  • the mind makes me more busy than necessary. It gets very active when I am slow and quiet - like a naughty baby monkey when the mother won't feed it
  • it is a vicious cycle - being busy makes me feel insular, so I do more things to feel more connected
So my aim is to take this gift of appreciation of quiet from the flu as I move out of my cave and back into working life. I will explore what really needs to be done, and what is simply keeping me busy. I will question what nourishes and supports, and what depletes and distracts. I will aim for more time for reflection and connection - and I will let you know how I go next week :-)

Aum shanti
